131 Alabama student-athletes receive freshman honors on SEC Academic Honor Roll

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – After another strong year of sports in which Alabama finished ninth in the Directors’ Cup, the Crimson Tide were able to close the academic year impressively: As the league office announced on Wednesday, 131 student-athletes were named to the 2024 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll, a school record.

In addition to the freshmen, 103, 56 and 126 Crimson Tide student-athletes were named to the SEC’s fall, winter and spring academic honor rolls, respectively, giving Alabama a total of 416 students for the 2023-24 academic year.

The 131 honorees were a program record for Alabama, which was one of only three conference schools to surpass the 130 mark. This year also marked the fourth time in five years that UA had over 100 student-athletes receive the honor in their first year competing for the Tide.

The Crimson Tide led SEC schools in award winners in football (20), men’s (6) and women’s (10) cross country, rowing (14) and volleyball (7), while also tying for the top spot in men’s golf (3) and men’s swimming and diving (9).

The 2024 SEC freshman academic honor roll will be based on grades earned during the 2023-24 academic year. To earn a spot on the honor roll, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher at the nominating institution and have been a member of the varsity team throughout the sport’s NCAA championship portion.
