Project 2025 would ruin Michigan sugar growers
Project 2025 would ruin Michigan sugar growers

In the event that there is a second administration under Donald Trump, the Republicans are preparing to take immediate action.

The Heritage Foundation has produced a 922-page book called “Mandate for Leadership, A Conservative Promise” as part of its Project 2025. The book can be purchased in print or downloaded for free at Project2025.org. The book has 34 authors, 25 of whom served in the first Trump administration.

Last night in Doral, Trump promised to employ one of the authors in his second administration, and I’m sure there will be many more. The book is intended to serve as a guide for the first 180 days of a second Trump presidency.

I am writing this because I think your readers will be interested to know that in the chapter on agriculture on page 296, the sugar program is proposed to be eliminated. The sugar program protects U.S. sugar producers from unfair competition from foreign sugar producers. Losing this important protection would ruin many Michigan businesses.

Project 2025 has gone largely unnoticed so far. Trump recently tried to deny it, but the ties between the Trump campaign and Project 2025 are strong and deep. Please read the book and consider whether Michigan sugar beet producers and your sugar industry could withstand such a blow, along with the many others envisioned in the plans.
