Youth pastor in Alabama allegedly threatened to kill his wife if a teenage rape victim did not send nude photos

An Alabama youth pastor is behind bars on suspicion of repeatedly raping and sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl who attended his church.

According to court documents, 39-year-old Terry Lewayne Murphree threatened to kill himself and his wife if the teenage victim did not comply with his demands.

Murphree is charged with 17 felonies in Blount County: nine counts of sexual intercourse by a clergyman with a child, three counts of sexual abuse, and one count each of first-degree rape, electronic solicitation of a child, human trafficking, traveling to meet a child for the purpose of sexual activity, and attempted first-degree sodomy.

Murphree was booked into the Blount County Jail on Tuesday.

The name of the church where Murphree served was not mentioned in court records.

The indictment states that the alleged sexual assaults occurred in March and continued until June.

Murphree is accused of forcing the girl to have sexual intercourse and performing sexual acts on her on several occasions.

According to the records, sexual intercourse against the girl’s will occurred at least seven times, and possibly as many as 15 times. These acts took place in the unnamed church, in Murphree’s house, and in the victim’s house.

The suspect, prosecutors said, requested nude photos from the victim via Snapchat and text messages. He also threatened to harm himself and his wife, who filed for divorce last month, if the teenager did not send him nude photos.

No attorney is listed in court records who could comment on Murphree’s behalf.

The prosecution is demanding that Murphree be denied bail.

“The defendant held a position of trust in the community – he was a youth pastor,” wrote Assistant District Attorney Scott Gilliland in his bail motion, “and he abused that position of trust to exploit a child in his care.”
