Three men receive Academic All-America honors

AMES, Iowa – The CSC (College Sports Communicators) have announced the men’s Academic All-America team in track and field/cross country, with a trio of Cyclones earning their spots on the teams.

This brings the total number of Cyclones to Academic All-America status in the 2023-24 season, with four women announced yesterday to receive the honor. Seven is the second-highest number in the country, just one spot behind Stanford with eight.

The duo of Finley Mcclear And Gable Sieperda both were selected to the first team, making ISU one of three teams in the country (Stanford, Nebraska) with more than one receiving the top men’s honor.

Finley McclearFour-time First Team All-American in the 800-meter run, receives his first Academic All-America honor. Gable Sieperda receives his second award after being selected to the second team in 2022-23. Both Mclear (800 m) and Sieperda (steeplechase) won bronze medals at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Quinton Orr earned his spot on the Academic All-America Second Team. It is Orr’s second award after earning Third Team honors last season.

Student-athletes received the award after being named to the national ballot through Academic All-District honors. All-District honorees have an overall GPA of 3.50 or higher and compete in at least 50 percent of the competitions.
