Starting line-up

Starting pitchers

Frankie Montas

Frankie Montas has done much better against right-handed hitters this season. They don’t hit at an average level, don’t draw walks, and don’t hit with a lot of power. Left-handed hitters hit much better. They hit at a solid average level, draw a lot of walks, have a lot of contact, and hit with a lot of power. Teams have also loaded their lineups with left-handed hitters against him all season.

Kyle Freeland

After four disastrous starts to start the season – his ERA was 13.21 – the Rockies placed Freeland on the injured list. He didn’t return until June 23, but he’s been good in his three starts since then – posting a 1.37 ERA in 19.2 innings against the Nationals, White Sox and Royals.

Left-handed and right-handed hitters both hit well against Freeland. This has been the case throughout his career, as the difference in his splits hasn’t been huge. However, in the limited sample size this season, right-handed hitters have shown a big advantage in their power. The other stuff has been pretty similar. In the past, right-handed hitters have had a 68-point advantage in OPS against him.
