This Massachusetts town is called the “ugliest town in MA”

Let’s face it, there is no city or town in Massachusetts that deserves this distinction. And no place anywhere ever wants the notoriety that comes with this particular label. However, there is one town in Massachusetts that received this unfortunate title because there was a place that needed to be named the “Ugliest Town in the State.”

Popular travel magazine Alot has released a list of the ugliest cities in each state. The publication polled residents of these cities through websites like Niche and Reddit to determine which city in each state received this special award. So which Massachusetts city received this unfortunate distinction?

At the risk of embarrassing ourselves as a city, we must point out that if you happen to go to the east of the state, to a suburb of Boston, you will find a town called Brockton. Brockton is, unfortunately, the ugliest town in Massachusetts.

Is it all really so aesthetically repulsive? That doesn’t seem right. Even images from Google Street View Maps make it look at least somewhat cool. Here’s what “Alot” had to say about why it was voted the “ugliest” town in Massachusetts:

The only architecturally interesting part of Brockton, Massachusetts is the town hall. The rest of the buildings are organized like a cheap version of Paris, with all the straight streets, squeezable townhouses, and a famous library. After all, the town is home to some boxing champions, otherwise it wouldn’t be anything special.

Brockton is known as the “City of Champions” and despite its lackluster exterior, it hosts a number of fun festivals throughout the year. The city also set a world record in 2010 when 872 people wearing Santa hats gathered in one place at the same time. Now that counts for something, right?

A cheap version of Paris? Yuck. Harsh wording. But let’s be honest, it could be a lot worse. For example, they listed Alabama’s ugliest city, Birmingham. They chose a refinery as the image for it. So at least we’re not Birmingham, Alabama.
