Big Country’s Pet of the Week | Idaho
Big Country’s Pet of the Week | Idaho

Each week we spotlight animals at local shelters looking for a permanent home.

This week’s big country house animal is Kaya.

Kaya

Kaya is still waiting to meet her new family at the Humane Society of the Palouse. She is a full-grown, 80-pound Alaskan Malamute mix. Kaya is already spayed and is about 9 years old. She is described by shelter staff as happy, bossy, outgoing, gentle, confident, and sweet.

Kaya is looking for a home without cats or other dogs. We believe she would thrive as an only animal where she can be the center of attention. Kaya is about 9 years old and has arthritis in her hind legs and hips. Her arthritis is currently being treated with a joint supplement and an anti-inflammatory that her future family will likely have to pay about $60/month for. Despite her arthritis, Kaya still enjoys shorter walks to stretch her legs (she even runs and jumps for joy when there is snow to play with)! Kaya is the longest-stay pet at HSoP and is available for adoption. After such a long stay, Kaya will need ample time to relax and adjust to her future environment. She is a happy girl who hopes to find a loving and cozy retirement home to spend her retirement in. Treats are her favorite food and are a great encouragement for her to listen. Kaya is loved by all of our staff, visitors and volunteers, but is definitely ready for a family of her own. Kaya has become accustomed to the shelter’s feeding and toileting schedules and would likely appreciate a similar schedule in her future home.

Kaya’s adoption fee was generously covered and her future family will receive a two-week supply of her medication to start with.

If you would like to meet Kaya, you should visit her at HSoP Monday through Saturday between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. HSoP is located at 2019 E White Ave Moscow, ID 83843.
