Michigan men’s basketball team expands 2024-25 schedule to include three non-conference games

Michigan’s men’s basketball team will begin a new era under head coach Dusty May on Nov. 4 when the Wolverines host Cleveland State in their 2024-25 season opener. The announcement of Michigan’s season-opening opponent was one of three non-conference games the school announced Wednesday. The Wolverines also have matchups against Purdue-Fort Wayne (Dec. 22) and Western Kentucky (Dec. 29) scheduled for the upcoming season.

In addition to these three non-conference games, it was also announced that UM will face Virginia Tech in the first round of the Fort Myers Tip-Off Tournament. The game is scheduled for Monday, November 25th at 6 p.m. After the game against the Hokies, Michigan will face either South Carolina or Xavier on Wednesday, depending on the outcome of the first round games.

The program previously announced this offseason a two-year neutral-site series with Wake Forest that will begin this fall. Michigan will travel to Greensboro, NC for the first meeting at the Greensboro Coliseum on Nov. 10. Next year, the Wolverines will host Wake Forest at a neutral-site arena to be determined. Michigan also previously added a two-year home-and-away series with Texas Christian (TCU), with the Wolverines hosting the first game on Nov. 15. Michigan will then travel to Fort Worth for the second half of the home-and-away series in 2025.

Michigan has two non-conference games left to schedule for the upcoming 2024-25 season. The Wolverines will play both home and away against Michigan State, Purdue and Rutgers in the Big Ten this season. Michigan’s remaining conference opponents will play exclusively at home (Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Northwestern, Oregon, Penn State, Washington) or away (Indiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State, UCLA, USC, Wisconsin). Dates and times for the Big Ten games have not yet been announced.
