James “Jim” Jesse Pensak – Duluth News Tribune

James “Jim” Jesse Pensak, age 93, of Brookston, MN passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024, at Guardian Angels Health and Rehab Center in Hibbing. He was born September 12, 1930 to Joseph and Theresa (Hudack) Pensak. Jim began working at Potlatch Paper Company at age 17. After his brother was missing in action in the Korean War, Jim joined the U.S. Navy at age 21. While in the Navy, Jim was a boxer. After his honorable discharge in 1955, he went back to work at the paper mill where he worked for over 40 years until his retirement. On July 14, 1956, Jim married a girl, Ethel Kangas, who lived down the street in Brookston; the two enjoyed nearly 68 years of marriage. Jim and Ethel owned a farm in Alborn, MN before settling back in Brookston in 2000. Jim enjoyed deer hunting, working on the farm and gardening. His greatest love was his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Jim had a big heart and helped anyone he could. He was a member of the VFW in Floodwood and volunteered for many years (with his wife) as a social services driver. Jim is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ethel Pensak, his daughters Brenda (Bruce) Johnson and Julie Colbert, his grandchildren Brandon (Deanna) Johnson, Brayden Johnson, Winter Severson, Taylor Colbert and Trey Colbert, his great grandchildren Natalie, Emily, Caitlin, Landon, Berlin and Kinley, his great great grandchildren Anakin and Clementine and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Theresa; he was the last of 13 siblings. A memorial service for Jim will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 12th at Hope Lutheran Church in Floodwood. The viewing will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Arrowhead Cemetery in Brookston. Military honors will be rendered by the Floodwood Honor Guard.
