University of Albany’s Pascale receives college award from Capital District Women of the Year magazine – Troy Record

ALBANY, NY — Katie Pascale, a senior at the University at Albany, has been named one of three college honorees for 2024 by the Capital District Sports Women of the Year organization.

Pascale plays lacrosse and will be honored at the Capital District Sports Women of the Year Awards Gala on Monday, August 12th at 7 p.m. at the GE Theater at Proctors in Schenectady. Tickets are available online at proctors.org or at the Proctors box office.

The Capital District Sports Women of the Year (CDSWOY) organization honors the best and brightest female athletes from high schools and colleges in the Capital District of New York State. The athletes are recognized for their academic, athletic and community achievements. For more information, visit the website: cdswoy.com.

Academically, Pascale had a 3.64 GPA and graduated with a degree in accounting and a minor in business administration. She was named to the America East All-Academic Team three times and was a two-time America East Women’s Lacrosse Spring Scholar-Athlete. She was the SUNY Women’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She was selected to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team and to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll this season. Pascale was named to the America East Honor Roll twice and was named to the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Athletically, Pascale was named to the 2024 Tewaaraton Award Watch List and received honorable mention to Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-America and honorable mention to Preseason All-America in 2024. She was twice named America East Midfielder of the Year (2023 and 2024) and twice named honorable mention to Inside Lacrosse All-America. Pascale was twice named to the IWLCA All-Region Second Team and the IWLCA All-Region First Team in 2022. She was named All-ECAC in 2023 and was the America East Tournament Most Outstanding Player.

She was a three-time America East All-Conference First Team member and a two-time America East All-Tournament member. During her career, she was also named preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Player of the Week six times and Rookie of the Week five times. Pascale holds the UAlbany career records in points, assists, draw controls, draw controls in a season and points in a game. She holds the America East tournament record for points in a game.

She suffered a serious knee injury that caused her to miss most of the final five games of the 2024 season. Prior to that injury, she ranked ninth among NCAA Division I players in points per game and fourth among all active Division I players in career assists and career assists per game. She is the first woman in UAlbany lacrosse history and third overall, including men’s lacrosse, to score 300 points in a career. She is the fifth lacrosse player and seventh overall in the America East to reach that mark.

Pascale suffered a serious head injury while playing basketball in high school that required resuscitation and nearly ended her sports career.

Pascale’s community service includes helping with the Madison Park cleanup, youth sessions with CityLax, a community day clinic, Women’s Sports Day, and Gift of Life. She has worked with the Tunnel of Towers Foundation and volunteers as a youth coach.

Pascale is the fourth University at Albany student-athlete to be selected by CDSWOY in the organization’s five-year history, joining Amanda Chambers (2023), Katie Falotico (2022) and Phoebe Fox (2021).

A total of ten high school and three college athletes will be honored at the event on August 12. The next honoree will be announced on July 10.
