Minnesota theater shows classic film for one night only

There have been many films based on music over the years, and in recent years there have been even more.

Some were great, some not so great, but of course that varies from viewer to viewer. One film that stands out as a classic, although at times it is cheesy and reminiscent of 1984, is Purple Rain.

Starring Prince, it was his acting debut and the film was heavily music-focused, as it shares the same title as the legendary album. For Prince fans, and especially those from Minnesota, the film includes photographs and scenes from the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

If you haven’t seen Purple Rain yet, or last saw it in theaters when it came out, there’s another chance to do so next week in Duluth.

Zeitgeist in Downtown Duluth is known for bringing classic films back to the screen, and on Tuesday, July 16th at 7 p.m., they’re doing it again: Purple Rain. I like to see older films there because it’s usually just a one-night event and the theater is usually packed with fans. You know, the ones who know all the lines and are eagerly awaiting the best parts.

Older films on the big screen provide an experience some never had, and while home audio systems are pretty good these days, there’s just something about cinema sound that makes it extra special. You shouldn’t miss Purple Rain on the big screen, even if you’re not the biggest Prince fan but still appreciate music.
