Idaho Steelheads | IDAHO STEELHEADS ANNOUNCE QUALIFIED OFFERS

BOISE, ID – The Idaho Steelheads (@Steelheads), proud ECHL (@ECHL) Subsidiary of Dallas Stars (@DallasStars), And Everett Sheen, Steelheads head coach and director of hockey operations announced today that the club has extended qualifying offers to seven players for the 2024–25 season.

The following seven players received qualifying offers from the Idaho Steelheads before July 7th Deadline; (Please note that players signed contracts for the 2024-25 season will be announced over the summer.)

STRIKER (4)
Jordan Kawaguchi
Wade Murphy
Mark Rassel
Jack Becker

DEFENDER (3)
Cody Haiskanen
Patrick Kudla
Nick Canade

Players who had already signed a contract by July 7 did not have to receive a qualifying offer.

Each team was allowed to secure the rights to a maximum of eight qualified players. Of the eight qualified players, no more than four could be veterans (260 regular professional hockey games at the start of the upcoming 2024-25 season). Players with open qualification offers cannot be traded.

The qualifying offer must remain open for acceptance until July 22, at which time the qualifying offer becomes null and void and the team may sign the qualified player at any salary or choose to take no further action. Teams that make a valid qualifying offer to a non-veteran player will retain the rights to that qualified player for one season of play.

A team that makes a valid offer to a veteran player or a goalie who has played more than 180 regular season games will retain the rights to that player through July 22. If the veteran player or goalie does not sign a contract with the team after July 22, the player will be considered a restricted free player and will be eligible to solicit and receive job offers from other ECHL teams. Restricted free players may not be traded. If a restricted free player receives a contract offer from a team other than the team holding the player’s rights and the restricted free player wishes to accept the contract offer, the restricted free player and the offering member must notify the ECHL, the team holding the player’s rights and the Professional Hockey Players’ Association within 24 hours. The member holding the player’s rights will have seven days from the date of notification to exercise its right and accept the contract offer.

If a restricted free agent does not have an offer sheet or a contract with an ECHL team by August 8, the player will be considered an unrestricted free agent.
