SUPERIOR – Motorists should expect lane closures and detours on the Blatnik Bridge this week and through the end of July.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will close a portion of the bridge for construction on July 13, 15 and 16.

Additional lane closures in both directions will occur through July 25 due to bridge inspections and routine maintenance.

On Saturday, July 13, the Garfield Avenue ramp in Duluth and the south side of the I-535 Blatnik Bridge will be closed from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Motorists will be detoured via US Highway 2 and the Bong Bridge.

On Monday, July 15 and Tuesday, July 16, the north side of the Blatnik Bridge from Superior to Duluth will be closed from 10:00 a.m. on July 15 to 10:00 p.m. on July 16. Motorists must use US Highway 2, the Bong Bridge, to get from Superior to Duluth.

To allow for routine bridge inspections and maintenance, the Blatnik Bridge will be closed to one lane in both directions from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, initially through July 25.

Our newsroom occasionally reports under the name “Staff.” The “Staff” name is often used when rewriting basic news briefs from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure that requires little or no reporting. Sometimes this name is used when a story has multiple authors or when the story consists of compiling previously reported news from various sources. When outside sources are used, this is noted in the story.
