Executive Director and CEO, Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency

Before Kelly Murphy was named executive director and CEO of the Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency in April, she served as interim executive director following the retirement of Anthony Catapano in June 2023.

During her nine years with the Suffolk IDA, she has completed 107 transactions, responsible for over $1.4 billion in private capital investment and the creation or retention of approximately 7,300 jobs with a total annual payroll of $1.6 billion. Murphy is also the Executive Director/CEO of the Suffolk County Economic Development Corporation, which assists nonprofits in expanding or acquiring capital projects.

Murphy has worked in the public sector for 18 years and has been entrusted with a variety of strategic initiatives throughout her career. She has developed strong relationships with key stakeholders in government, business and local communities. She is the project lead for the Suffolk IDA’s regional planning efforts, which aim to stimulate investment in and around the county’s downtowns and rail stations.

Prior to her appointment to the IDA, Murphy served as assistant to the deputy county executive and commissioner of economic development and planning for Suffolk County. Prior to that, she served for eight years as executive director of the Community Development Agency and the Industrial Development Agency for the City of Glen Cove. In that role, she oversaw the $1 billion redevelopment of the 214-acre Garvies Point mixed-use waterfront.

Murphy serves on the board of the Suffolk County Workforce Development Board. She also serves on the Workforce and Education Committee of the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council and the Board of Directors of HIA-LI.
