Former Tennessee pitcher Wyatt Evans signs with Gamecocks Baseball

Paul Mainieri and his team have signed another player for the 2025 squad, former Tennessee pitcher Wyatt Evans. Evans was traded for the first time on June 3rd.

After appearing in 19 games for the Vols as a freshman, Evans has not been on the mound for the past two seasons. After redshirting in 2023 due to injury, he did not appear in a game in 2024.

This is the third transfer for the Gamecocks this month following juco transfers Cayden Gaskin and Jase Wiota. This is all part of an overhaul of South Carolina’s roster as Mainieri and his team now aim to win.

Evans is a South Carolina native and is the 46th recruit in the class of 2022. A highly rated recruit, Evans received all-state and all-region honors before heading to Knoxville.

In his freshman season, Evans made 16 appearances on the mound and allowed just four earned runs. He finished the year with a 2.25 ERA and a .211 batting average to opposing hitters. What was a promising start to a young career was marred by injuries.

Now Evans gets a second chance with his home-state team to pick up where he left off as a freshman. The Gamecocks hope that’s the case, as Evans would be a great addition to the bullpen.
