Phil Steele predicts Utah will win the Big 12 Conference in 2024

Despite using a somewhat unorthodox method of ranking the Big 12 Conference teams on a list that includes multiple teams ranked second, fourth, seventh and 10th, college football guru Phil Steel expects Kyle Whittingham and the Utah Utes to win the Big 12 next season.

In most In the latest issue of Phil Steele College Football Preview magazine, Steele ranked each team in the Big 12 Conference, with Utah topping the list.

In addition to listing the Utes as conference champions, Steele also highlighted the group by mentioning Utah as his surprise No. 1 team in college football ahead of the 2024 season.

Utah joins the Big 12 Conference in 2024 along with three other members of the “Four Corners” schools, including Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado, and while the Wildcats have received some praise in the preseason rankings, Kyle Whittingham’s program appears to be the frontrunner among the four newcomers.

Utah brings back veteran playmaker Cam Rising after he missed last season with a knee injury. Steele’s selection depends on Rising’s health, but if the team can avoid the injury wave in 2024, he should be a major factor in the race for Arlington.
