Tennessee Titans Edge Rusher Hungry for More

Tennessee Titans edge rusher Rashad Weaver hasn’t had the best of luck so far: He missed almost his entire rookie season due to a broken fibula and has only started four games in three seasons.

But now, in his fourth year, none of that matters. The 26-year-old is ready to take the next step, not only for himself but also for the entire team.

“It’s year four, so it’s time to make a jump not only for me but for this team,” Weaver said, according to TennesseeTitans.com. “I can really show the full value of what they got out of that pick and then some, because that’s always been my goal. And if I do my job and accomplish my personal goals — my personal goals are tied to this team — that’s only going to move the team forward.

“Winners are loved everywhere and it will benefit me and the team in every way.”

Weaver, a 2021 fourth-round pick out of Pittsburgh, has totaled 49 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks in 33 career games, with the majority of that output coming in 2021.

This season, however, the Titans will count on Weaver to take on a much larger role. Denico Autry, who led the team with 11.5 sacks last year, left as a free agent, leaving a significant hole in the pass rush. Harold Landry and Arden Key will likely carry the bulk of the load, but Weaver is ready to do his part however he can.

“At the end of the day, Nico is gone and that’s a spot for a seasoned veteran who’s played great reps and done a lot of great things here,” Weaver said. “That’s going to be open and in the league these days, you need three good pass rushers… I’m going to do what I need to do. I’m going to be where I need to be and I’m going to take advantage of what I need to do.”

The Titans are a very different team overall than they were last season, with an entirely new coaching staff and a heavily revamped roster. This amount of change can be daunting at first, but it also brings with it a lot of opportunities, and Weaver is taking advantage of them all.

“It’s a different room, it’s a different team,” Weaver said. “I think there’s going to be a lot of opportunities, it’s just a matter of what I make of them. … If I do what I need to do, it’s going to be taken advantage of. If I don’t, it’s on me. It’s not going to be anyone’s fault but mine.”
