5-star OT Douglas Utu becomes top commit in Tennessee’s 2025 class

Josh Heupel and Tennessee signed their highest-rated recruit for the 2025 class on Monday afternoon with the signing of five-star offensive tackle Douglas Utu.

Utu, No. 11 in the ESPN 300 and the third-best offensive tackle in the incoming class, officially visited the Volunteers over the weekend and is now the fourth 2025 ESPN 300 prospect to commit to the university. The 6-foot-6, 280-pound lineman has joined Tennessee after visiting Washington, Michigan, Nebraska and Alabama in the spring.

“I am proud to announce that I will dedicate my craft and talents to the University of Tennessee!” Utu wrote in a post to X. “You can’t spell UT without UT! Go Vols!”

Utu is a three-year starter at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, where he shined as a right tackle on a team that went 12-0 en route to the Nevada 5A Division-I state title last fall. He will head to Knoxville with NFL potential and the versatility to play both tackle and guard. Before Monday, Utu was the second-highest-rated uncommitted offensive tackle in the 2025 class behind five-star David Sanders.

Tennessee ranked 14th in ESPN’s team recruiting rankings for the 2025 cycle prior to Utu’s signing. With Utu, the Volunteers head into the summer with a class that includes four-star recruits George MacIntyre (No. 5 quarterback), Ethan Utley (No. 9 defensive tackle) and Nic Moore (No. 6 offensive guard).
