A Davie man is accused of murdering another man in Mocksville shortly before midnight Friday.

Danny Earl Carter, 32, of NC 801 S., Cooleemee, was arrested Saturday morning while standing outside a nearby Residence. He is accused of murder.

On June 21 at 11:56 p.m., officers were first called to a Gwyn Street apartment in response to a stabbing.

The victim – Mark Randall Dukes, 62, of the home – called 911 and died on the way to the hospital, Hartman said. When officers arrived, two women were in the home.

“Carter and Dukes know each other and may have been involved in a disturbance at the time of the stabbing,” Hartman said. The two had been seen together earlier in the day, and Carter was the partner of Dukes’ niece.

Carter fled the crime scene on foot that night.

Hartman said extra officers were on patrol in the city throughout the night and morning. Just before 9 a.m. Saturday, someone called 911 and said they saw the suspect behind a residence near the crime scene. Officers were on the scene within a minute and a half, Hartman said, and found the suspect hiding under an inflatable children’s pool.

He surrendered due to an accident.

Hartman said drugs believed to be methamphetamine were found in the victim’s Gwyn Street apartment, and that officers had been called to the apartment in the past and were familiar with the suspect and the victim.

The victim suffered at least three stab wounds. The possible murder weapon has not yet been found, Hartman said on Monday morning.

An arrest warrant was also issued against Carter in Kansas, where he was accused of assault.
